Walking safaris are a complete African experience. We offer two main types of walking safari - fully supported camp-based trips, where you will return each evening, or mobile hiking safaris, where camp is established each night on route.
For our Camp Safaris, we use specially selected and exclusive seasonal bush camps, where you return to sleep each night under African skies in our customised walk-in tents, complete with comfortable mattress beds and 'en suite' shower and toilet. Camp is the start and end point for morning and afternoon explorations, allowing you to refresh and relax over the main heat of the day. Breakfast, lunch and evening dinner will be served under shaded canvas, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush - all prepared by our camp cook and kitchen crew.
Camp Safaris offer one of the most exciting ways to explore the wildlife and wilderness of Hwange National Park, famed for its populations of elephant, lion and other big game.
For our Hiking Safaris camp is established each night along the route. Hikers are expected to carry their own personal gear, including regular camping equipment such as tent, sleeping bag and mat, etc. All kitchen equipment and food is provided and carried by our team. The safari is accompanied by our cook and camp crew who will help with the carrying of food and equipment and do the camp chores along the way. We also offer a fully portered option for those wanting to be unburdened from their pack.
Hiking Safaris offer the opportunity to explore the remote isolated wilderness areas of Chizarira National Park, located on the dramatic Zambezi Escarpment, a landscape of dramatic beauty. The usual pattern of the day will be a hike to a new camp location, followed by a 'free' hike (without backpacks) in the afternoon, although this of course varies depending on the amount of ground to be covered between camp locations.
We also offer Hiking Safaris in Matopas, Mana Pools, Gonarezhou and other National Parks in Zimbabwe.
Your safety whilst on safari is our first priority. At all times in the bush you are accompanied by Leon and his experienced tracking and support team. Leon carries with him, in addition to his wealth of experience and knowledge, a firearm for protection from big game - a last-resort option, is fully trained in first aid procedures and is backed up by satellite phone contact and support vehicles in the case of emergencies.
Each walk is also accompanied by an experienced tracker, whose sharp eyes and intimate knowledge of the landscape will help you see Africa in a new light.
Leon usually leads all his safaris personally. On the rare occasions that Leon is unable to lead a safari himself, you will be accompanied by a fully licensed, similarly experienced and knowledgeable safari guide, also armed for safety, and with full first aid training.
